The Villa of Candelaria is the first Sanctuary in honour of the Patron Virgin of all the archipelago and which gives this municipality its name.

Its excellent climate, its beaches and its geographical location make it an important tourist enclave.

It’s rapidly growing population of 17 398, is dedicated mainly to the services sector, specially in Las Caletillas, It’s role an an area of second residence for the island capital’s dwellers is important. T raditionally, the coastal area is dedicated to fishing and pottery. The agricultural areas are dedicated to cultivating potatoes, vegetables, fruits, grapes and bananas.
